Education in Gangtok

Gangtok is the beautiful capital town of Sikkim and the largest of the whole state of Sikkim. Located in the Shivalik Hills of the eastern Himalayan range, it has a population of just 30,000 approx.

Gangtok has always been known for its beautiful tourist spots and scenic beauty, which attracts thousands of tourists every year. Some important tourist spots in Gangtok are Tsomgo lake, Khecheopalri Lake, Himalayan Zoological Park, Pemayangtse Monastery, Menam Hill, Ganesh Tok, etc.

Temperatures range from an average maximum of 22 °C (72 °F) in summer to an average minimum of 4 °C (39 °F) in winter. While during spring and autumn, the weather is generally sunny and mild.

Some important festivals celebrated with great enthusiasm in Sikkim are Losar, Saga Dawa, Lhabab Dhuechen, Drukpa Ksheshi, etc.

Educational Scenario of Gangtok

Gangtok has many good universities like the Sikkim Manipal University, ICFAI University, Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management University, Vinayaka Missions Sikkim University and the Sikkim University. They have proved themselves that they are not behind in rendering excellent quality education to its students.
It can boast of some of the best schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Government Secondary School, Khy De Khang Secondary School, Army School, Bahai's School, North Academy School, Tashi Namgyal Academy, etc.

Among the city's many other institutions of higher learning are the Damber Singh College, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Himalayan Pharmacy Institute, Sikkim Government Law College, Centre For Computers and Communication Technology (CCCT),  National research Centre for Orchids (ICAR).
