Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology was established in 1997 as a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University and is approved by UGC and AICTE. The engineering college has its own campus at Majitar, Rangpo East Sikkim. The institutes location on the banks of river Teesta, surrounded by green hills, adds to the vibrancy of the campus and makes it an ideal place for learning.
The Institute attracts students from all over the country and has nearly 2000 students enrolled in the various engineering disciplines. SMIT has got a well endowed faculty with 130 full time teachers including 26 PhDs and 39 M Techs to deliver quality education. In addition, the Institute also enjoys the services of 20 adjunct faculty members to supplement the talents available within the campus. Well structured infrastructure, a well stocked library, sophisticated technical labs set up in collaboration with industry, industry interaction, a placement cell, and closeness to nature make it one of the best engineering institutes in the country today.
